Passive Fish

I have a bad habit of doodling on my desk if I happen to be sitting there while on the phone(as seen in the image above). I was on a long phone call with a friend and I found myself automatically picking up the nearest drawing utensil, which happened to be a violet color pencil. Before I realized it I had sketched the entire head and began to work on the body when it occurred to me that I may as well put it down on paper. The image below is the result after. I used a Faber-Castell Fine PITT artist pen for some outlines and Crayola Portfolio series watercolor pencils for color.

More Sketchbook

I couldn't sleep one night while visiting friends in VA back in July so I broke out the sketchbook.

Whimsy vs. Angst

I created this drawing for my cousin's wife who requested something for her apartment. She loved the waves and fish on my sketchbook cover so I thought I'd make something similar for her. I used colored pencils on watercolor paper and finished it over the course of a couple of hours since it was a relatively small drawing.

Unlike the former,  for this sketch I used a calligraphy marker. I call  it 'Inner Demon' and I may or may not replicate it on a larger scale as an oil painting. I like the sketch but I don't think it's quite complete as is however I couldn't do more to it at the time.

A Page out of the (Sketch)Book

No completed painting so far but here are a few things I've done recently including the blank cover of my sketchbook-

The Feeling of Fall

A very quick ink sketch inspired by Fall. I think the size is 8" x 12" on watercolor paper.

Still Life Sketch

A quick sketch of some items on my desk today. Using ballpoint pen I did this in a few minutes in a Moleskine notebook. I thought it looked a bit plain so for bits of color I used a couple of Prismacolor watercolor pencils minus the water.

Cringeworthy

...is the word my friend used to describe this drawing. This one is called 'buttonboy'. Based on Joe Hill's short story "Best New Horror" in 20th Century Ghosts. I received 20th Century ghosts for my birthday last year and I devoured it immediately. It was sitting on my bookshelf until today. A friend and I were having a conversation and I mentioned this book, recommended it in fact. While we were chatting I got the idea to do a simple drawing but I decided to re-read the story first. Now I'm stuck reading the other stories as well. They're just that good.
